I found something today that feels like a piece of DNA from my own story. 📼

An old cassette with my very first radio interview as DUNE (1994/95), even before my first single “Hardcore Vibes” was released.

Listening back, I realized: I had no idea how to do interviews yet. No routine, no media skills, no perfect answers. Just that mix of excitement, hope, and this feeling: something’s about to happen…

I digitized the cassette because for me it genuinely belongs in the history books. And now I want to share it with you

DUNE

Some artists have careers. Others become part of music history.

For more than four decades, Oliver Froning has lived and breathed electronic music. Long before streaming, social media and algorithms reshaped the industry, he was already building a life around synthesizers, drum machines, studios, clubs and an unwavering belief that music could change the atmosphere of a room in seconds.

DUNE was never created as a nostalgic project. It was born from a relentless fascination with sound, energy and the emotional connection between an artist and a crowd.

What followed became one of the defining success stories of European dance music.

With iconic records such as Hardcore Vibes, Can’t Stop Raving, Million Miles From Home, Rainbow To The Stars, Hand In Hand, Who Wants To Live Forever and many more, DUNE helped shape the soundtrack of an entire generation. Millions of records sold, countless chart entries, radio playlists across Europe and performances in front of audiences ranging from intimate underground clubs to some of the world’s biggest festival stages turned the project into one of the most recognizable names in electronic music.

But the biggest achievement was never a chart position.

It was longevity.

While trends came and went, genres evolved, technologies changed and countless artists disappeared, DUNE kept moving forward.

Behind every release stands thousands of hours that never appear on a discography. Endless nights in recording studios. Experiments that never left the hard drive. Songs rewritten dozens of times until every note felt right. Flights before sunrise. Airports becoming second homes. Hotel rooms turning into temporary studios. Conversations with producers, vocalists, engineers, promoters, label executives and fellow artists from every corner of the world.

The audience sees ninety minutes on stage.

The reality is a lifetime behind the scenes.

Electronic music has reinvented itself again and again. From analogue synthesizers to digital production. From vinyl to CDs. From downloads to streaming. From record stores to TikTok. From local club flyers to global online communities.

Very few artists have experienced every chapter from the inside.

Even fewer have remained creatively active throughout all of them.

For Oliver Froning, standing still has never been an option.

Every new generation of producers brings new inspiration. Every technological breakthrough opens another creative door. Every performance is another opportunity to build new memories while respecting the legacy that made DUNE what it is today.

That philosophy explains why DUNE continues to resonate with audiences that span multiple generations. Fans who danced to the records in the 90s now stand next to listeners discovering them for the very first time through streaming platforms, remixes and festivals.

The music keeps finding new ears.

And the story keeps growing.

Today, DUNE represents far more than a catalogue of classic records.

It represents resilience.

Reinvention.

Consistency.

A lifelong commitment to electronic music.

It is the story of someone who never stopped creating, never stopped learning and never lost the excitement of stepping into a studio with a blank project file or walking onto a stage moments before the lights go down.

After more than forty years, that feeling remains exactly the same.

Because music was never just a profession.

It became a way of life.

The legacy continues to grow through new productions, international performances, collaborations with artists across generations and an enduring passion for pushing electronic music forward without forgetting where it came from.

Some careers are measured in years.

Others are measured in moments that stay with people for the rest of their lives.

DUNE belongs to the latter.

The journey is far from over.

DJ DUNE – The Rave Icon Still Going Strong

If you’ve ever danced to “Hardcore Vibes” or shouted
along to “Can’t Stop Raving,” then you’ve already
felt the energy of DJ Dune — the man behind some of
the most iconic tracks of the rave and happy hardcore
era. And guess what? He’s still lighting up dance
floors around the world.

🚀 From Münster to Global Stardom

Oliver Froning, aka DJ Dune, kicked off his journey
in the early ’80s, spinning records as DJ Raw. But
things exploded in 1994 when he co-founded the
legendary project Dune, named after the sci-fi
classic Dune. The sound? A high-energy blend of
techno, rave, and happy hardcore — and it was exactly
what the scene needed.

🔥 The Anthems That Made History

Dune dropped hit after hit, dominating charts and
clubs across Europe and beyond:

  • Hardcore Vibes

  • Can’t Stop Raving

  • Million Miles from Home

  • Rainbow to the Stars

  • Hand in Hand

  • Are You Ready to Fly

These tracks defined a generation of ravers and
earned gold and platinum certifications in multiple
countries.

⚡ The Comeback & Evolution

After a hiatus and lineup changes in the 2000s,
Oliver Froning relaunched Dune as a solo act — and
didn’t miss a beat. With fresh productions like
“Magic Carpet Ride”, “Revenge”, and stunning remixes,
he’s been tearing up stages at major festivals like
Tomorrowland, Defqon.1, Mayday, and Nature One.

🔊 Dune Today: Timeless Energy, New Vibes

Dune isn’t just about nostalgia. Oliver is pushing
boundaries with new tracks, mixing classic rave
elements with today’s sound design. His releases on
Beatport and SoundCloud prove that he’s not stuck in
the past — he’s shaping the future of rave music for
a whole new generation.

🌐 Stay Connected with Dune

🎶 Whether you’re an old-school raver or just
discovering the scene, Dune is the real deal — a
legend who still knows how to set the floor on fire.
